Island Pacific has long been a supporter of both sporting and charitable events. This year we will be sponsoring the Dallaglio Flintoff Cycle Slam 2012 and raising funds:
-
On behalf of the Dallaglio Foundation for the Cancer Research UK funded ICGC project on prostate cancer genetics. This exciting initiative will read the complete genetic codes of 250 prostate cancer patients; the results will mean that scientists can differentiate between fast and slow growing tumours for the first time and will help to build a new era of personalised medicine.
- The AF Foundation, set up by Andrew and Rachael Flintoff, is a children’s charity raising funds to build, develop and improve Child Rehabilitation & Physiotherapy Units throughout the UK.
- The not-for-profit foundation Virgin Unite to support their programmes that help young people in the UK to increase their employability and entrepreneurialism.
They will cycle the 2,872 km across Europe from the birthplace of the ancient Olympic Games - Olympia, in Greece - to the venue for next year’s Olympic Games – London.
It will raise funds for Cancer Research UK and Great Ormond Street Hospital via Lawrence and Freddie’s charitable foundations. In 2010 Freddie joined Lawrence on his ride from Rome to Edinburgh which raised over £1.4m for charity.
The route is made up of five stages, each of 4 or 5 days, with a rest day in between. The epic journey will take them up through Greece, the length of Italy, across the Alps, through the Champagne region, and take in the legendary one day Paris-Roubaix ride before reaching London. It is s a stunningly beautiful and challenging route.
Island Pacific wish all the riders the best of luck....enjoy the ride!
